Small wonder then, that I am thrilled to have discovered
an artistic medium that brings a little alchemy into my life. I
have always been interested in doing crafts but since glass
fusion has come into my life it has become my passion. I am
filled with anticipation when I open my kiln on the day after a
firing, because I know that the pieces that I began with, will
have taken on a new form.
Sometimes I will love the pieces, sometimes I will wonder what I
was thinking when I put those colors together, and sometimes I
will see a new way to embellish or expand a piece. To work with
hot glass is to embrace the unplanned, the unseen, and the
unknown. And you have to love surprises!
Each piece begins as 2 or more pieces of glass cut into desired
shape (some with other small pieces of glass in between). They
are then fired in a kiln at 1465 degrees or higher, cooled, cold
worked (grinding, sanding) then put in a mold and fired again.
The length of firing time is approximately 7 or more hours for
each firing. For the jewelry I seldom use a mold, instead, each
piece is cut individually, fired, cut into desired shape with a
glass saw and then fired again.
All my work is one of a kind. No production. I do take orders
and am able to create per clients request
providing I can get the color of glass that is being requested.
